The Debate Between Sabbath And Sunday (2)
Fourthly, what day is the Lord's day? There are many people who wrongly think it is Sunday. There is never a scripture in the Bible says Lord's day refers to Sunday and there is no word of "Resurrection day". Jesus and the apostles never said that Resurrection day replaced the Sabbath.
The word "Lord's Day" appears once in Revelation. Revelation 1: 10: On the Lord's Day I was touched by the Holy Spirit, and heard loud trumpets behind me. About Lord's Day there are two meanings here. One is the Lord's coming day and the other is the Sabbath.
"the day of the Lord" appeared in the Bible three times, twice in Thessaloniki, and once in 2 Peter. It is clear that this day is the day when the Lord comes again.
Peter 3:10, but the day of the Lord will be like a thief. That day the great sound shall be abolished, and the physical substance shall be fiery. The earth and its contents shall be burnt up.
Jesus said that the Son of man is the Lord of the Sabbath day. This verse proves that the Sabbath is truly the Lord's Day. God in the Bible repeatedly says "My Sabbath." It is so clearly that Sabbath is truly the Lord's Day.
Fifthly, why do some people worship God on Sunday? Changing the Sabbath to the Sunday, which fulfills the prophecies of the Bible that the abomination of desolation stand in the Holy Land and changed times and law. However, the law of God has not changed and will never change. Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law.
And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. (Daniel 7:25 KJV)
The prophecy is accurate. About three hundred years after AD, on a conference of responsible officers of the church changed God's law to change the Saturday Sabbath to Sunday.
Sixth, the Sabbath is a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ.
Those who oppose of the Sabbath most like to use the Colossians 2: 16-17 as evidence.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. (Colossians 2:16-17 KJV)
The term Sabbath here is not synonymous with the Sabbath in the Ten Commandments, where the Sabbath here means the feast of the Sabbath, and what is the feast of the Sabbath? Look at Leviticus 23, there is a feast of the Sabbath, such as the Day of Atonement and the Feast of Tabernacles. Such a Sabbath is not necessarily the seventh day, and these are typologies of the plan of redemption. When Jesus the body came, the prophecy became a shadow and no longer practiced. It seems like Jesus was the atoning Lamb, who died on the cross, and we have now sacrificed without a true lamb.
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (Matthew 5:17-18 KJV)
Ten Commandments, the first commandment: You shall have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3 KJV). And other nine commandments, were destroyed because of the coming of Jesus? Do not need to follow? No. No destroying, but fulfilling in the heart of man. Going away the idols and worshiping the true God in spirit and truth.
Another verse is very much liked by those who oppose the Sabbath. It is Hebrews chapter 4, " Sabbath- rest for the people of God". If we read the whole Hebrews chapter 4 ,we can see it has nothing to do with Sunday. Sabbath-rest is true rest, winning rest and under grace rest.
